We just got back from our 11-day vacation up to the Oregon/California area. It was so much fun! And Ellie did remarkably well, considering how much time was spent driving and she was strapped in her carseat! Such a trooper, that little one is (oh and incredibly adorable too). :)
Our destination was Grant's Pass, Oregon (southern Oregon- along the California border) where we were attending the Johnson Family Reunion. The quickest way to get there would've been to drive through Nevada and such, but we never believe in doing things the easy/quick way... We did the "scenic" route and headed up to Northern Oregon first (only adding 5-6 hours to our already-long drive!).
We left on the 19th after Joe got off work (and built a "lid" for Bade's truck that we were borrowing) and headed to Ontario, Oregon where we were going to stay with my dad at a Holiday Inn Express. *I tell you- that is one good thing about trying to coordinate your vacation schedule with my dad- you can always stay in his hotel room for free. ;) It was such a nice hotel too, with a yummy breakfast (cause it's all about the free food, my friends). We pulled in pretty late with a fussy little munchkin, but it was so nice to just hit the sack in a nice, comfy bed. Ahhhh.
The next morning we were off to Oregon/Washington to drive along the Columbia River Gorge. I love this area- it is so beautiful. If I could move there, I would. It's the main reason we took the much longer "scenic" route. The gorge has all sorts of waterfalls and little hikes and is just gorgeous. I just really wanted see this area with Joey and our little munchkin. We even managed to talk all my siblings into doing it with us, which made it even better (cause who likes to travel with just your spouse and baby?!...laaaame) ;) lol
We met up with them at Horsetail falls and did a "little" hike (or so I thought). I thought this was a 20 minute hike, so packed nothing for Ellie. Nothing. I had no diapers, no blanket, no snacks for us or water or anything. Ya, I'm smart. Little did we know, it was five miles. Woops! It was beautiful though. We started at Horsetail falls, hiked up to Ponytail Falls and then to an overlook of Triple Falls. They were all beautiful, even if it was all uphill!
*Sidenote* Well, as most people know, babies eat every three hours and right as we had another 2 miles to go, Ellie was hungry. This wouldn't usually be a problem except that it was getting late and starting to rain. Not fun. So Ellie got a little "eating on the go." We adjusted her in the snugli and I fed her while I walked downhill to our car, in flip-flops even! That was quite an adventure. Luckily that path wasn't well traveled that day and I didn't have to flash anyone. :) Emily was kind enough to swap me shoes half way down so then I got to hike down in shorts, socks and tennis shoes. Oh, what a beautiful sight I was to behold. *end note*
After our little hike, we went over to Multnomah Falls, hopped out of the car, snapped a few pics and then hopped back in. They are just breathtaking. Love it! Wish we could've spent more time, but unfortunately it was cold, late and everyone was really hungry.
Afterwards we all headed to the Red Robin in Vancouver Washington (why-because Alan was around of course, and we never do anything but Red Robin when he is around). He mostly wanted to go because he had a free birthday burger, so I guess I can't blame him.
Then it was off to my Aunt's house where we all stayed the night. I thought it was rather amusing that the Johnson clan took over her house. All four of us siblings and our families were staying at her house while she wasn't. Thanks Moose! Poor Joey though- he couldn't breathe in her house due to the fact that she has two cats and had to sleep in the truck that night. I slept peacefully though, as did little Ellie-burr. :)
That morning, we made a few stops and were on our way to the Umpqua Lighthouse State park. We got in relatively early and set up camp. Yes, that's right...camp. I took my two month-old baby camping. I don't know what I was thinking. We met up with most of my extended family there. (I think it's funny that we plan these reunions for a few days and then end up meeting up with everyone before then anyways. :) The camping wasn't that bad, actually. That little girl is a heater, I tell you! She kept me warm all night. :) The only not-fun thing about it was feeding her two-three times during the night and having to get out of my sleeping bag and being cold. Brr. Yes, I know, there are easier ways to feed a baby other than sitting up freezing your back off while she stays warm all bundled up, but of course it took me three nights of camping first, to figure it out. But at least I figured it out by the end of the trip. :) She slept quite well around the campsite- and looked just like a little monkey in the snugli. And lucky for us, Bug came prepared and even had a hat for Ellie in the morning when it was really cold and I had nothing but a blanket...hey- first time mom here! ;)
That was an especially fun campsite because we were right in front of a hill where Alan set up a zip line for the kids. They had a blast. We werne't sure if it was allowed, but figured better to ask forgiveness than permission. And Joey even pulled out the little "fiddy" to take Aaron and Caden for rides before he found out it was not allowed and that he could be fined 200 bucks. Whoops! Luckily, he didn't get caught. ;)
The next day we went down to the beach. Joey took his bike out on the sand dunes for a bit while I went crabbing with Alan and Emily and their families. It was actually really fun! It was cute to see how excited the kids got every time Alan pulled the rings out of the water with lots of little crabs in them. It was also fun to see Jen stick the hooks through frozen-stiff bait! Ha ha- she's a tough cookie (either that, or she likes dead, frozen fish bait). I wouldn't touch that nasty, dead, frozen, stinky fish. It was especially fun to see the kids squirm as they tried to hold the crabs for a picture (and how Jaxon wouldn't touch them without a big, leather glove, while Anya held it with pride in her bare hands). It wasn't fun though that I wasn't very prepared for this trip. I didn't have a hat for Ellie and had to just keep her wrapped in a blanket so she wouldn't get sun-burned. Bad mommy! I tried very hard, and succeeded...partially. She only got a little red on one side of her face. The side that wasn't covered by the blanket and exposed to the sun when I stood a certain way. doh. Oh well. She didn't complain much and she looked even cuter with ONE red cheek. :)
After the crabbing, we went and sat at the beach with Bug, Topher and Grace. It was SO windy and not much fun to sit there with a sleeping baby as the sand blows around you and covers every inch of your body in a fine layer of sand. It was Ellie's first time at the beach though and she managed to sleep through most of it. Feeding her in the sand wasn't much fun either, but what can I say- she is a hungry girl and aparently wants to eat...all the time. This little girl is becoming so well travelled and well-fed (meaning, I have fed her EVERYWHERE!) I have no shame apparently since I really do feed her everywhere. lol
The rest of the bunch joined us a little later and played in the water and sand while we watched and made lunches. Topher even pulled out his kite because Buggy wanted to fly it. After he set it all up and she saw how strong the wind was, she decided she didn't really want to fly it. She then was very grateful for her decision, as we all watched Topher get dragged down the beach, digging his heals into the sand the whole way. It was so funny to watch- he literally flew down the entire beach! Luckily, he stayed on his feet most of the time and no bones were broken, only a few scratches in his feet. Gotta love Bug and Topher who bring all the fun toys (and had to buy a roof rack while they were there because they had so much stuff piled in their car!)
After the beach, we hopped in the car and headed to Grant's Pass for the reunion site. We got to the Lodge and were very pleasantly surprised! First of all, it wasn't out in the middle of nowhere (which tends to be a recurring theme in our reunions...) and secondly, it was huge and the perfect place to accomodate our large group. And somehow, the "reunion gods" smiled upon us since we got the royal suite! We had to share a loft with Em and her family, but it was HUGE! The biggest room, by far. We had our own little kitchen and living area as well as our own bathroom and jetted tub (complete with a twisting swan-neck pouring spout) and bay windows all around our king-size bed (well, we got a king-size bed, Em and boys got a futon and blow-up mattress. tee hee hee. Before you judge me and say I'm a horrible sister, know that her spousy wasn't there yet and wouldn't be until the last day and she was kind enough to let us take the bed). It was awesome and so nice to have a little privacy and a place where I could lay Ellie down for naps, undisturbed (and where we could hide out when we were "family'd out"). tee hee hee.
Well, this has turned into a pretty long post and I doubt most people have made it through this far, so I'll end for now and post another portion later. Stay tuned, it gets good. :)

All Smiles!
Ellie has just recently started smiling at us (and no, it's not just gas anymore- or else she is REALLY gaseous!) She is such a doll. We really do love her to pieces and are so glad that she's staring to smile at us!
It's so fun to see her grow and develop more and more each day. She's holding her head up really well, kicking off of us (leap frog style), standing up (with a little help) and just cute all the way around! I feel so lucky to be home with her every day and get to see all these fun things. She's even getting better in the evenings with her fussy time. It's still not much fun when she hollers for a few hours, but it's getting better (watch, now she'll scream all night...).
Just thought I'd post a few pics of the smiles I've caught on camera. I miss most of them, because as soon as I pull out the camera, she's just too intrigued by what it is to be amused by our stupid faces anymore. :)
And here are some more pics just cause!
Look at that smile on her daddy's face! Yup- he loves his little girl. And they are so cute, too. She gives him the BIGGEST smiles and you can totally tell when she looks at him, how much she loves him too. It's the sweetest.
Joe doens't like this bow/flower. He thinks it's too big. I think it's cute. See, and that smile proves that she knows she's cute. :)
These two even get tuckered out together. How cute is that. And she even keeps her hand on him to make sure he'll stay and cuddle with her. So cute! I love these two people so much!

Visit to Mami's
My schedule is much more open now that I'm a mommy and don't have to work. It's kinda nice. I don't have to plan things around my job or the stupid 9-5 schedule. It leaves much more freedom to just get up and do whatever I want, whenever I want. Ahh, it's nice.
So I thought it would be fun to just up and leave! I packed up my little baby and we headed to Idaho Falls to visit my mom for a few days...in the middle of the week!! I figured Joey's been busy and we don't see much of him when he's home anyways, so I might as well go visit my mom and get pampered a bit and not have to worry about cooking or cleaning or anything like that.
We had lots of fun with Oma- we made jewelry, went on lots of walks, make headbands and flowers and bows for Ellie and even found time to give me cheetah hair!
The bow making process what lots of fun- and thanks to my mom and all her crazy old knee hights, we got all sorts of color headbands!! And we bought some silk flowers and made flowers and mom mom even made a bunch of bows for me. It was really fun and made me really happy. So now Ellie will have all sorts of cute headbands, bows and little flowers for her "hair". She's such a fun toy. :) (Oh, and look! She's taking a binky!! It's a miracle. Of course, it only lasted a minute, after which she promptly spit it out again! Little stinker...)
We also thought it would be nice to save myself 80-90 bucks and let my mom highlight my hair. Yes- the same mother who fixed her roots and ended up with red roots and brown hair. BAD idea. I even knew it was a bad idea, but did it anyways. We bought a color and some highlight stuff and foils and I told my mom how to do it and she had seen it done a few times, and we figured- why not!? So we went to work with the foils and all that, and lo and behold- we came up with cheetah hair (orange, poo and blonde cheetah hair, mind you)! Ya, it didn't turn out so hot. Yikes! I am not even that upset up about it- I actually think it's kinda funny. I asked for it. And honestly, you can only tell how bad it is if I put my hair up in any way. Yes, that was fun. Now I'm going to go get it fixed so I look more like a human and less like an animal. Wish me luck that my hair won't fall out from being colored too much in a week. :)

It was a fun trip and nice to get out- even though now I'm sad cause my house is still a mess and I don't really want to clean it. Woe is me. But my baby sure is cute! :) And look how cute her little outfit is! One of my neighbors gave it to her as a baby gift- so cute!

Oh, and this is the outfit we borrowed from the little Grace that we've decided not to give back cause it's so stinkin' cute! :)

My Beautiful Baby Ellie...
I've been stalking this blogsite for months now. I'm not quite sure anymore how I came across it, but I LOVE the pictures she takes and the awesome props she has at her disposal. I just think she takes the most beautiful baby picutres and have wanted to take Ellie there since she was still a wee little one in the womb.
I dind't really bring up the idea of "pictures" with Joe until right before Ellie was born, because I knew what he'd say when he knew what it would cost... But after playing the pregnancy/fat card long enough, I finally talked Joe into it and am so glad I did!
We had these pics taken a little over a week ago by Katie Moss (peekaboo photos)in her Studio in Pleasant Grove. She was so great to work with- she was so patient while Ellie decided she needed to eat every 30 minutes to stay calm. :) She was wonderful and so are the pictures she took.
I just wanted to post a few of my favorites and show you all how stinkin' cute my little girl is!! Enjoy and feel free to check out peekaboo photography- she's great! :)

This was a hat that one of Buggy's friends made for Ellie. I saw it on a web site once and then asked her if she could make one similar to it- which she did. Turned out cute huh!?
Then the photographer told me that she had the hat that I saw, so we took a few with that hat as well.
Ahhh the black and white chair...I have some lovely stories about this chair. I won't post them on my blog though- if you want to know- ask me. :)
Is that not the sweetest photo ever! Does he not look like the proudest daddy ever!? I love how he looks at his little girl and how sweet and gentle he is with her. She is the twinkle in his eye and it is the sweetest thing.

Our little princess- isn't she cute!?

Ellie is 3 weeks!
I can't believe she is already 3 weeks old. I really do feel like I just brought her home from the hospital yesterday. She is such a joy though! Joe and I absolutely love having her here and love the spirit she brings into our home. She is an angel and so well behaved (not sure how that happened with both of us as her parents...maybe the terrorizing will come later...?)

Life with little Ellie is the best. I can't even tell you how much I love staying home and not working- it's heavenly! ;) I am still liking the whole "being lazy" thing and sitting at home tending to my little one. She is such a good baby. She sleeps well, eats well and only cries when her mommy is out of milk... I am starting to think that she just likes me for my milk.

At her last Dr. apt., the dr. told me that I must be feeding her straight cream. She had gained a pound since her last visit (a little over a week ago). Ya, she's a good eater (she must get that from me...)

She is smiling more and more (she must be really gassy) and we can't wait until she smiles for REAL at something we do, rather than just cause she's got the toots. She's getting bigger and cuter by the day and we are so glad to have her in our family.
This last one is Ellie and her cousin Miles- he's only 2 weeks older than she is! Hopefully they will have fun growing up together and won't harass each other mercilessly.

Mother's Day Excitement!
I think I can officially say that this was the best Mother's Day ever (well, up to a point...I'll get there in a minute)! That could possibly be because it's my first mother's day with a little one, but hey!
I must also add that little Ellie is just about the cutest thing you've ever seen, held or cuddled. I love this little girl so much and can't even begin to express how grateful I am that she's a part of our family now. She has her mommy wrapped around her little finger and don't even get me started on the twinkle she is in her daddy's eye.

Mother's day started with the most beautiful yellow lillies ever! Joe and Ellie brought them into the bedroom. They were huge and had the most beautiful blossoms! I get to enjoy them now and can plant them in the garden when I'm done enjoying them! Joe gets two thumbs way up for not getting the $5 Wal-Mart bouquet. :) Then Joe brought in my gift from Ellie (look at her- only two weeks old and already shopping- I'm so proud!). Ellie had gotten me a hammock!! What a sweet baby- not only is she cute, but knows just what her mommy wants! ;) I still can't decide which was better though- the flowers and hammock or seeing my hubby and beautiful baby greet me with "happy mother's day."
We tried (not hard enough apparently) to make it to church on time, but only caught Sunday School and Relief Society. But I figured it was better to go to some of church than none at all, right!? And my sweet little girl was kind enough to sleep through it all so I didn't have to figure out how to feed her "discreetly" in the Mother's lounge. Ya- still working on the feeding without stripping thing...we'll get there.
When we got home, Joey set up the hammock for me and then relaxed with his little baby while I made us some lunch. We had a nice little picnic on the hammock and thoroughly enjoyed the heavenly weather. This was of course followed by our Sunday nap. Yay for keeping the Sabbath holy by "resting". :)
We headed up to SL with Bade after that to spend the rest of the evening at Joe's parents so we could talk to Camron on his mission and visit with his family. It was all fun and games until someone almost got an eye poked out!
Well, Doug had set up a zip line in the backyard for his scouts a little while ago, and since it was still set up, all the nephews wanted to ride on it. So Joe and Bade were helping them sit on the seat and pulling them up the hill so they could ride down. Joey wanted to let Cole (the oldest nephew) have a ride, so he tightened the metal cable a bit and then pulled down on the seat so that Cole get on it.
I looked out the window just in time to see Joe pulling down on the seat which caused the whole cable to snap and the pulley and seat to whip him in the head. He dropped to the ground holding his head and we all rushed out to see if he was okay, only to see him move his hand to reveal a HUGE gash in his forehead and blood everywhere. I think this was the point where I freaked out. I don't do blood. I don't do gashes. I just don't. I grew up with girls and a brother who never had accidents like that (well, none that I had to look at, at least). Doug and I ran into the house to get some papertowels to clean his hands (now covered in blood) and his forehead which was quickly turning red.
They called around to find an instacare that was open for a bit and then debated whether or not they wanted to eat before they headed over. Ya, makes perfect sense- go to the hospital to get fixed-up or eat first...decisions, decisions... Geesh. Apparently they were all used to this kind of stuff and I was the only one about ready to have a heart attack. Bade ended up taking Joe to the InstaCare while I stayed at the house with Ellie going through every possible worst-case-scenario in my head.

Luckily, they were back 1 hour, 8 stitches, and 1 giant gauze later. My poor hubby. He says he was fine. I think I might've been in more pain just having to look at it.
So, you see it was the best mother's day...well, until Joe had to go and split his forehead open! Silly Joe. This is why I am grateful we had a girl. No emergency room visits, giant gashes or blood for me, thank you very much.
All in all, it was a good day though. I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful little girl. Does it get any better than this?

Top 10 things I've learned about baby Ellie...
...that weren't in any of the books I've read.
10. When they say "kiss sleeping goodbye," they were serious!
9. Diapers are VERY absorbent- they lead you to believe there is less poop than there really is.
8. She likes to poop half way through eating.
7. These poops sound like explosions. BIG explosions.
6. Those "explosions" are really projectile poop.
5. She gets QUITE the distance with her projectile poop. It easily covers you. Completely. In yellow cottage cheese.
4. She also likes to pee half way through eating.
3. Luckily her pee is not projectile.
2. But it will cover your sheets (well, the part that isn't covered in yellow cottage cheese poop) and her clothes.
1. I still lover her. A lot.
